Let me rest - A poem

Let me lay me down

In your empty arms

Your touch no longer soothes me

Your kiss can’t heal my scars

Each day another heartbreak

My heart grows cold and hard

Death has come a-calling

Left his number on his card

“Call me if you need me

And I can ease your pain

I can end your suffering

And give you peace again”

I know I must be strong

For the people that I love

But pain has filled my days

And I have had enough

Just let me rest a while

And let the suffering cease

Give me chance to heal

And find my inner peace
